WINTER CAP | MAX THIEL - SHADOWS

Very thrilled to present our latest collaboration with our old friend Maximilian Thiel. When I first met Max about 15 years ago, he was studying fine arts at the University of the Arts in Berlin. After completing his studies with a focus on etching and printmaking, he went to Mexico for 5 years to live, work and study, where he explored intensively on the art of mural painting and sgraffito. He has been back here in Berlin for a few years and currently runs two independent workshops: the printing workshop “SEPS_Berlin” and the ceramics workshop “Pumpwerkstatt”.

With this collection, we are happy to make his graphic language wearable and combine his art with everyday life. Just as his murals create experiential spaces, the hats and accessories become mobile works of art - an expression of his work.

Our new WINTER-Caps are here! Just like our regular Caps, but fully lined with super warm & cozy COTTON Sherpa fabric (no polyester & no micro-plastic!), they protect you from all kinds of cold weather chills.The warm and cozy lining also provides the perfect fit due to its fluffiness. 

Fabric:

For this collaboration we used old pillowcases on which Max printed his linocut “shadows of the future haunting the past II” with black ink on red fabric; and on the woodcut “echo chamber” he used several layers of black, green and yellow ink on white fabric.

Maximilian Thiel is a Berlin-based artist who studied at the Berlin University of the Arts. After completing his studies, he moved to Mexico, where he lived, worked and studied for five years. His experiences from both worlds have shaped his artistic practice, which is now anchored in Berlin. Here he runs two independent workshops: the printmaking workshop “SEPS_Berlin” and the ceramics workshop “Pumpwerkstatt” Both places are not only production sites, but also platforms for community and collaboration. They offer artists an independent infrastructure that promotes exchange and creates new opportunities for creative processes. His work combines the monumentality of large-scale murals, which he has realized in cities such as Mexico City, Berlin and other European locations, with the precision and narrative depth of prints. In his woodcuts, linocuts and etchings, a process of translation takes place - from the large to the small, from the surface to the detail, from the all-over to the narrative.

The current edition of hats and caps was created in collaboration with the Berlin hat label Captn-Crop, which - like his own workshops - is a place of community, in this case specifically for the art of hat making. The collection makes his graphic language wearable and combines art with everyday life. Just as his murals create experiential spaces, the hats and accessories become mobile works of art - an expression of his work.

Maximilian Thiel ist ein Berliner Künstler, der an der Universität der Künste Berlin studiert hat. Nach seinem Studium zog er nach Mexiko, wo er fünf Jahre lang lebte, arbeitete und ebenfalls studierte. Die Erfahrungen aus beiden Welten prägen seine künstlerische Praxis, die heute in Berlin verankert ist. Hier führt er zwei unabhängige Werkstätten: die Druckgrafikwerkstatt „SEPS_Berlin“ und die Keramikwerkstatt „Pumpwerkstatt“ Beide Orte sind nicht nur Produktionsstätten, sondern auch Plattformen für Gemeinschaft und Kollaboration. Sie bieten Künstler:innen eine unabhängige Infrastruktur, die den Austausch fördert und neue Möglichkeiten für kreative Prozesse schafft. Seine Arbeit verbindet die Monumentalität großformatiger Wandgemälde, die er in Städten wie Mexiko-Stadt, Berlin und anderen europäischen Orten realisiert hat, mit der Präzision und narrativen Tiefe von Druckgrafiken. In seinen Holzschnitten, Linolschnitten und Radierungen findet ein Übersetzungsprozess statt – vom Großen ins Kleine, von der Fläche ins Detail, vom All-Over in die Narration. Die aktuelle Edition von Hüten und Basecaps entstand in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Berliner Hutlabel Crop Cosecha, das – ähnlich wie seine eigenen Werkstätten – ein Ort der Gemeinschaft ist, hier speziell für die Kunst des Hutmachens. Die Kollektion macht seine grafische Sprache tragbar und verbindet Kunst mit Alltag. Wie seine Wandgemälde erfahrbare Räume schaffen, werden die Hüte und Accessoires zu mobilen Kunstwerken – ein Ausdruck von Kreativität, Gemeinschaft und künstlerischer Narration.
